Australian National University (ANU) has been named the world’s 27th-best university on the 2022 QS World University Ranking, up from 31 last year.
It was one of five local universities to make the top 50 and seven to make the top 100. The other four in the top five were The University of Melbourne (37), The University of Sydney (38), UNSW (43) and UQ (47).
Curtin University, at 194, re-entered the top 200 for the first time since 2006, while Macquarie University scraped back in at 200 for the first time since 2009.
Australian universities’ success in the 2022 ranking, which was based on pre-2020 data, was based on two key factors – outstanding research impact and high levels of internationalisation.
